At approximately 1:47 am this morning Yonkers FD received calls for a fire at 239 New Main Street.
Upon arrival they found fire on the 1st floor of a 2-story commercial building in a check cashing business. The fire seemed to be in a front room towards the front of the building. The 2nd floor, a bar/club, did not catch fire although FD did searches just in case.
It took around 45 firefighters around 45 minutes to place the fire under control but not before a firefighter received a minor cut to his hand. There were no other reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The cause of the fire is under investigation although the Yonkers Arson Unit was called to the scene to do the investigation.
Since the building is entirely commercial there were no residents evacuated. Customers of the bar (La Raza) self-evacuated.
