92 Oliver Ave Fire

Around 2:12 am this morning Yonkers FD received calls for a possible kitchen fire at the above address.

Upon arrival they found a fire on the 3rd floor of a 4 story attached wood frame multi-family home with occupants already self-evacuated.

It took around 45 firefighters around 20 minutes to place the fire under control.

One firefighters was injured when he got disoriented from the smoke and the clutter in the apartment and a door shut in the room he was in so he stuck his head out the window. According to the chief they thought they were going to have to bring him out the window but his crew found him and brought him outside. His injuries were from smoke inhalation and some carbon monoxide poisoning. He was transported to a local area hospital for observation. He is expected to be fine.

He walked himself to an awaiting ambulance.

According to the fire chief 2 families will not be allowed back inside. 5 people from the fire apartment and an unknown amount of the people from the apartment below due to water damage.

The actual cause of the fire is under investigation.
