YFD responds to a fire on 217 Rumsey Rd

Approximately 3:15 am this morning (9/20/16) Yonkers FD received calls for a possible fire on 217 Rumsey Rd.

Upon arrival they found heavy smoke coming from the 1st and 2nd floor windows of a 2-story garden apartment. The occupants were already self-evacuated and there were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The fire took about 15 minutes to place under control.

According to a fire official on scene I was told there were some type of religious candles downstairs in a closet area that were still lit when the occupant went to bed.

The occupant was sleeping when somebody woke her to tell her about the fire.

The fire was contained to the first floor so the occupants of the 2nd floor will be allowed back in but the occupant of the fire apartment on the 1st floor will NOT be allowed back in tonight.
