YONKERS MAYOR MIKE SPANO PRESENTING “SCHOOL OF THE MONTH” AWARD TO WESTCHESTER HILLS SCHOOL 29

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is presenting the City’s School of the Month Award for May 2019 to the deserving teachers, staff and students of Westchester Hills School 29, today Tuesday, June 18 at 1:30 PM, at Weschester Hills School 29’s auditorium, at 47 Croydon Road.

Westchester Hills School 29 is being recognized for its academic successes this school year, as well its commitment to educating autistic students in the City of Yonkers. Westchester Hills School is home to more autistic students than any Yonkers Public School and this year celebrated the 10th anniversary of the successful Autism Spaghetti Dinner, which raises funds for autism projects within the school. During the School of the Month ceremony, autistic music students from the school’s “Rock the Spectrum” production will perform for the crowd.

Under the leadership of Principal Steven Murphy, Westchester Hills School 29 is also achieving success through community partnerships and school initiatives such as Unity Day, St. Patrick’s Day March, National Gun Violence Prevention and the “College Is My Future” program.

In addition, the Westchester County Historical Society recently dedicated a Historical Marker on the school’s property, recognizing the school as historic ground of the ‘Battle of White Plains’ during the American Revolutionary War.
