Mayor Andre Wallace Talks About Mt Vernon Water Tax Reduction

Mayor Andre Wallace leaves Mt Vernon in the Right Direction as he passes in the Torch.

Water Rates (3%) tax reduction for the residential and commercial customer of Mt Vernon is without a doubt a great move in the right direction.

We will be talking about the above and about recent issues in Mt Vernon.

MOUNT VERNON, NY: (December 16, 2019) – Today, in conjunction with Commissioner Carlton C. Spruill and Superintendent John F. Arena, Mayor André Wallace has announced a 3% tax reduction in water rates for residential and commercial customers of the Mount Vernon Board of Water Supply, effective for the next billing cycle on April 1, 2020, to $3.64 per 100 cubic feet of consumption, down from $3.75 per 100 cubic feet. This reduction comes on the heels of an amnesty program announced in November 2019 to help further ease the burden on Mount Vernon residents.

Mount Vernon’s Board of Water Supply is tasked with supplying continuous, potable water to the residents of the City and, unfortunately, has too often been at the center of controversy with allegations of funds being used for things unrelated to its mandate.

“Once we got into office, we were able to focus on creating efficiencies and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. The benefits of that hard work should be returned to the residents in the form of a rate reduction,” said Mayor Wallace. “I would like to commend the efforts of Commissioner Spruill, Superintendent Arena, and the Water Department staff in helping to provide much-needed relief to our over-taxed residents.
